Staff Changes and a New Staff Opening

Professor Moore (otherwise known as Tippy) has stepped down from the role of Head of Ravenclaw. She will continue teaching Enchantment as well as History of Magic in the fall.
So, Professor Aslan has taken over as the new Head of Ravenclaw! We wish her the best of luck in this new position!

In other news...
Professor Amanda, most unfortunately, has resigned from her staff position. She will definitely be missed!

This means that the Head of Gryffindor and Potions/Herbology positions are available. A staff application can be found at the end of this post. It is for the combined position of Head of Gryffindor and Potions/Herbology. However, you may apply for just the class as well.

If you are applying for Head of Gryffindor, we recommend that you are sorted into Gryffindor. This is not a requirement--however, you may NOT be affiliated with your former house if you do become Head of Gryffindor.

Note: Please do not apply unless you have the time to give to PH--about 1-2 hours/week. You must commit to this summer term and the upcoming fall term (June to December). Members who become a staffer but immediately grow inactive are not easily forgiven...

A New RPG: Plano Hogwarts Style

The folks in the Dumbledore's Army have started a new RPG for anyone who happens to be interested.

The basic premise is that it will be based off the lives of the Plano Hogwarts members but creative liberties can be taken for those more inclined to spice things up a little bit.

If you're not currently a member, head over to the "Around the Castle" thread in the forums and sign up for the DA

If you are a member already, we ask that you provide a description for your character and then feel free to start posting.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows to begin Filming in Two Weeks

According to BBC, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows will start its filming in two weeks time. This was stated by a spokesman for WB after the Leavesden Studios were once again reopened:

"We have not begun filming yet and will not do so for another two weeks. This has always been the case," she said.

"Filming will commence mid-February and go through to spring 2009."

The filming for the seventh Harry Potter movie is due to run 54 weeks.

The DA RPG is just finishing up their 2nd RPG (after one full year of writing! Whee!) and in honor of that, we're having a party in the Dumbledore's Army thread.

One major part of this is going to be an awards ceremony and so, for those of you in the DA, I'm going to need your help. I've posted a list of categories in the DA forum and what I need from you is nominations.

Please help us out! It's so important to recognize PH members for all the work they do and this is just one way to do it.

Invitation to Yule Ball 2008

Dear PHers,

You have been invited to the be-awesomemost party of the year... THE YULE BALL!

The Yule Ball starts on the 23rd of December and lasts until 3rd January 2009. There are plenty of events and contests for everyone, so be sure to put on your best attire, grab someone and come on down to the Great Hall for a blast!

Some events that you should take note of are:
- Yule Ball Quidditch (28 Dec, 5PM CST @ The Quidditch Field)
- Yule Ball Post War (Starts on 29 Dec 11PM CST and ends on 31st Dec 12AM CST)

The Most Popular Books Among College-Aged Students

Harry Potter's popularity plummeted among college-aged readers this year, but the boy wizard still rules as the favorite book of this coveted demographic. Anderson Analytics shared the literary results of their annual open-ended "U.S. College Student Report" with GalleyCat, reporting that J.K. Rowling's Harry Potter series is still the most popular book overall, followed closely by Stephenie Meyer's vampire series, Twilight.

Happy 20th birthday to Alfred Enoch!

Alfred Enoch, who was born on December 2, 1988, is 20 years old today. Alfred Enoch plays Harry's fellow-Gryffindor and West Ham United fan Dean Thomas in the Harry Potter movies. His father, William Russell, is also an actor in Britain who appeared in many movies and the Dr. Who TV series.
